Utah Desert Remote Observatories was created as a family business to share our love of astrophotography from our remote Southwest desert location with people around the world who can only dream of dark skies.
Our observatories are located in a dark 21.89 mag/arc sec2 Bortle 2 zone in Southwest Utah. We have onsite support to ensure security and provide hands-on assistance with those tasks you can’t do from home. Keep in mind that sky conditions can vary quite a bit from night to night so you might experience Bortle 1 readings one night and Bortle 3 the next.
If you’re here to install your equipment you’ll also find lots of other area attractions for you and your family to enjoy. There are numerous national and state parks within a 150 mile radius of Utah Desert Remote Observatories including Great Basin, Zion, Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Capital Reef national parks. All of Utah’s national parks are certified by the International Dark Sky Association as dark sky parks making Utah a great place to enjoy the outdoors at night.
If you’re looking for an in-person experience and an opportunity to explore Utah’s dark sky through a telescope close to St George and Zion National Park, check out Zion Stargazing. Another great option is the Dark Ranger Telescope Tours located near Bryce Canyon National Park.
