Colorful California

The California Nebula is rich in hydrogen, sulfur and also has some oxygen so it’s a natural candidate for the Hubble SHO color palette. It’s also quite large and fills the full frame of an ASI6200MM monochrome astro camera mounted on a Takahashi FSQ106 530mm refractor telescope. I used most of the available night to capture this vision from the dark skies of Utah Desert Remote Observatories and even with a little smoke lingering from California wildfires it gives us a deep colorful image. The Hubble Palette creates a lot of color contrast between the hydrogen and sulfur wavelengths and really showcases the distinct regions of the different gases.
